Datastage v8.1

Hello,
Does anyone run Datastage v8.1 on a Development Machine?
(I'm referring to Datastage on IBM's AIX using OS v5.3)
Has anyone promoted code from a Datastage v8.1 to a higher datastage environment (e.g DVLP --> TEST, TEST --> PROD) which runs a Datastage version older than v8.1?
Are there any compatibility issues / problems in this scenario?
I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have experience in Datastage v8.1 migration in an IT enterprise which uses 4 Datastage instances (DVLP, INTG, TEST, PROD) and needs to ensure code backwards compatibility?
