Whoa! Circle the wagons! I would offer the following points; 1. You are using SQL Server 2. DTS is FREE 3. You are doing text file ETL. This is not heavy ETL lifting. DTS has a GUI paradigm, can be scheduled, has metadata capability, is based on a industry accepted modern Programming language (that ...

Writing to a sequential file would be extraneous since I still have to parse the XML to eliminate the unique elements like timestamps. Also I forgot to mention that the order of the XML elements is not always the same. Using the XML Input stage is a poor option since every job would require a unique...

XML Input Stage Warning

I am getting the following informational warning for every message parsed by the XMLInput stage (v2.0.0); Xalan fatal error (publicId: , systemId: , line: 1, column: 1): The main XML document cannot be empty The XML appears to be parsed correctly and processing continues normally. With other message...

I've never been able to import a Stored Procedure either but then the whole Oracle table Definition import is not good anyway (synonynms) so it's par for the course. You can, of course, manually type in the stored procedure. I think this thread has gotten outta hand. Use the function call to dual si...

Yeah, that would be unreasonable. However, it is a DataStage patch not a UNIX patch.

How do I format the oconv for milliseconds? The Help examples are only to the second. I'm told by Ascential that DataStage 5.2.1 on HP-UX 11.11, which is our system, cannot support milliseconds without a patch. This illustrates Ascential's overall shortcoming with designing a realtime architecture. ...

My jobs are completely realtime not batch. I don't care about volume I care about speed, about milli-seconds to do a single row. If batch is a telescope, realtime is a microscope. Mine is an ODS in realtime baby. My "select" is when a MQ Series message arrives on a queue and the DS job bro...

There is a need to balance the impact on the design and function of any of our DataStage jobs. I do not want to intermingle the performance functionality with the ETL functionality. The method I am seeking is a single stage variable in every transformer of a DS job. This unobtrusive stage variable c...

I am using 5.2.1. As an example, I am trying to build the following string within the derivation of a stage varaible; @USER0:'':time():''. I'm not worried about spanning processes. I would be quite happy if I were able to assign USER0 a value in one stage variable of a transformer and retreive it in...

Sorry, I tried to say two things with one sentence. My jobs use MQSeries as a source of data. The MqSeries stage has a wait time defined as -1 which means its realtime. The shutdown mechanism is triggered when a MQ Message of a user defined type arrives on the source queue. Some of my jobs target Or...

I want to use some of these user variables in a routine, transform and/or in a stage variable but DataStage won't let me. What's the workaround without resorting to a common variable?

We use AQ in exactly the method suggested by vmcburney. We use AQ, and the DataStage MQSeries plug-in as both sources and targets in our near realtime ODS processing jobs.
