AuditStage error: No columns seen for L0 Domain Analysis
I've come across an issue at the very beginning of the process in trying to analyze a database with AuditStage. Under Anlysis...L0 Domain Analysis the "Select Columns for L0 Domain Analysis" child form comes up. The top left correctly displays the tables via ODBC connection to exernal data...

It you could put these 2 files in memory then you should see a performance gain. Ray or Ken may know how to put these files in memory. I have never tried anything like that but it sounds like fun. Thanks Kim. Ray or Ken...let us in! Tell us how if you haven't already posted that before in another t...

code reviews
The code reviews I've seen have been typically simple. For the most part the developer of the job sits with another developer that understand the requirements of the job to some extent. The job developer gives a brief overview of what the job does, and if designed well with good naming standards the...

Precedence rules for name conflicts
This is similar (to an extent) to the question asked so I'll post this here for everyone's reference and hopefully it will stick in the minds of those that don't already have this memorized: When there are name conflicts between different operands the following precedence is used: 1 Built-in functio...

There is no DataStage limit to the number of instances that may be started. However, there is almost certainly a resource limitation. You shouldn't really try to start more than two instances per CPU. Naturally it depends on what the jobs do, and the processing power of the server... I've tended to...

the answer
There is a spot on the main page that lists the 5 dullest personalities, oops, I mean the top 5 posters on the forum (the ones that keep it alive...thanks!). Anyways, we could create a section to list the post-and-runners, kinda like when you write a bad check and they post it at the checkout. Then ...

Baldmartyr, does this BB allow for forums to be underneath forums? For instance, could you have an AuditStage forum underneath a ProfileStage forum that would always display at the top? I wasn't sure if there could be forums underneath other forums/folders. And if so, then would if even be possible ...

Re: Changed Product Names
Ok...I think I have this right, but I need some verification on a mapping of old names to new names: MetaRecon --> ProfileStage QualityManager --> AuditStage Mercator --> DataStage TX Orchestrate --> DataStage Parallel Extender Vality --> QualityStage Vality's product was Integrity...

best place to discuss ProfileStage
Currently there are forums for MetaData, Data Quality, and Data Integration. ProfileStage (formerly MetaRecon) does obtain metadata to allow the data analyst to improve data quality and to benefit data integration projects. It seems ProfileStage is most closely related to Data Quality, so discussion...

Re: Opinions on Job Sequences versus Basic Code Batch-sequen
I am just curious and would like to hear some opinions about whether you use Job Sequences or you code batch-sequences in Basic for the job-sequence-environment (or both). In general I would say that it is possible to make much more sophisticated batch environments with Basic code than with the job...

more on staging areas
Does the ETL staging area need to be formal, and by that I mean stored in a DBMS with a DBA assigned to it, with good naming conventions, good metadata, all ETL developers are on the same page as to its design, maintenance, and intended use? I know I've been places were developers typically worked o...

Re: The ETL Staging Database (Sandbox) concept is not dead y
Everyone has their own terms, but when I have a database between the source and target systems that has some value to someone in terms of querying and reporting I call it an ODS. When I have a database just for the purposes of making ETL easier I refer to it as a 'staging area'. Ross and Kimball see...

Re: Renaming lots of DataStage jobs
All, We are going through an effort to clean up our DataStage environment before undertaking our next big development push and one of our issues is that everyone interpreted our naming standards differently :o. We would like to go through and rename these jobs to follow our naming standards. We hav...

losing Repository grid in Designer
I've had this happen. The delete method just mentioned sounds like it would probably work. I ended up fixing by having another DS user export the part of the registry that stores the GUI information and I imported it in. I'm not at a computer with DS at the moment to find the registry path, but this...

Re: Enhancing the DataStageXchange Community
All are good ideas: 1)Enable users to upload screen shots, routines, helpful documents, etc. 2)Provide free and commercial software tools to assist data integration 3)Provide web based training on Ascential products I have a feeling the community will favor choice 1, and its a good idea. Of course t...
