Shutdown Procedures -- MASTER OFF ALL
Hello Forum, Periodically we shut down for maintenance with the following procedure: 1. Broadcast users to exit clients. 2. dssh command: 'MASTER OFF ALL' 3. shutdown DataStage services. 4. Reboot machine. Doesn't step 3 automatically perform the equivalent functionality as step 2? Does performing s...

Corrupt Datasets
Hello Forum, I have a dataset control file (the .ds file) that DataStage and DataSet Management tool complains is not a DataStage dataset file. I've manually looked at the contents of the file, and it is missing the standard content that would indicate it is a dataset. The entire .ds file contains m...

Configuration changes - Need to recompile?
Do I really need to recompile my jobs after switching $APT_CONFIG_FILE to another configuration? The number of nodes you define in the configuration file determines how many instances of a process will be produced when you compile a parallel job.

I am currently running 7.5x2 with NLS enabled. That's very interesting to hear Ray. Both vendor support and the Enterprise Edition for Windows documentation recommended not installing it: Do not check the NLS install box. NLS is not supported with the 7.5x2 release of DataStage Enterprise Edition o...

ArndW, Thank you for your response. I understand how I can use your routine from Job Control and open up a file and convert strings at specified offsets. However, I think your proposed solution was suggesting that this routine be called from a transformer. Since you proposed a BASIC routine, were yo...

CFF Stage - Handling packed decimal NULL values
Hello Forum, I have a EBCDIC file with packed decimal (COMP-3) fields. My source system is using EBCDIC blanks to encode null for the field (0x40). This makes last nibble of the packed decimal invalid, and DataStage throws a fit when it tries to parse. Data parses fine on the Server edition CFF Stag...

Update: Support has confirmed that the following functionalities are not working at for 7.5X2, in at least some environments: 1. Padchar functionalities on CFF and sequential file targets are not working on 7.5X2. 2. $APT_STRING_PADCHAR can be used in place of Padchar specifications, but it only wor...

Multiload Plugin - Parallel or Sequential execution mode?
Hello Forum, Can Teradata Multiload Plugin run in Parallel execution mode? I don't think it can, although I've heard rumors that it can. I believe this because of the following: 1. Nothing in the Plugin documentation seems to suggest that any parallel execution functionality. Then again, the plugin ...

be warned , you are dealing with a BASIC xfm, be aware of the implications of having this stage in your job. The only implications I'm aware of are: 1.) Your limited to the Server edition's Pseudo-Basic 4GL, and cannot access the new functions from Parallel. 2.) Not guranteed to work on MPP archite...

DS_AUDIT retention, schema, and content
Hello Forum, I am researching using the DS_AUDIT table as a source of information to meet some security requirements given to me. I have the following questions: 1. How long is the entries in the DS_AUDIT table retained? How is the retention period configured? 2. How do I get the DDL/Schema for the ...
