My fault.... the metadata came in as VARCHAR, but the underlying table is defined as CHAR which explains the trailing spaces.
Sorry for submitting a question without doing the research first!

Hi, It seems as if the Transformer stage is adding trailing spaces on my VARCHAR columns.
