I agree with Tunde, I worked with both tools and Informatica is much mature in terms of metadata management, mapping management and much more integrated than DataStage. Those of you who worked with PX and Server know what I mean by integrated... or sorry not-integrated. On the other hand, the develo...

Backup project at UNIX prompt
Hi, I was wondering if an utility exists with DataStage to backup a project at UNIX prompt? Running the dsexport from Windows could work but since everything resides on Unix, I want to perform a backup on our project on Unix...not from my workstation. Does copying the project file system is somethin...

We converted our OCI8 to OCI9 using an utility from Ascential directly. They have it on their Support web Site under the download section. It's a routine that you run and converts all OCI8 to OCI9. Tested it and it work fine. Other solution that we tested but preferred to use Ascential routine is to...

Kim, I would like to use the job sequence for the good reasons you mentioned but I'm afraid that DataStage does not offer enough features in it to use it (ex. check box at the sequence property level to specify to abort if a job fails). The routine you are talking about, do you have an example of it...

Usage of Control job or Sequencer ?
Hi, We're currently in the process of building the sequencers for our jobs and get to a point where we're questioning the usability of the GUI to create the jbo sequence versus writing the code in a job control. Let's say I have 3 sequences (Load Staging, Load DW and Load Datamart). Each of them hav...

In our current project, we need to do DELETE as well and we use the PRE-SQL option in our Target OCI. Write your load job as you will and in your target OCI, there's a tab for Pre and Post SQL. Put your DELETE statement right there and the records are deleted before the first insert happens. Don't k...

To provide feedback to your solutions dtsipe: 1. The table has no indexes. It's a staging table at the beginning of the load. 2. Splitting the input file is not a valid solution for us. Although, we could probably use partitioners/collectors Stage in DS. 3. SQL*Loader is our next test using the ORA ...

Loading performance in Oracle
Hi, We're currently using DS6 in a UNIX (SunOS) environment on a 8 CPU box with 16G or RAM. We run Oracle 9i on the same box as the DS Engine and we use the Net8 Client (doesn't support 9i 64 bit client yet). We ran tests to load a flat file (about 80 columns) in an Oracle table (OCI Stage). We don'...

MetaStage Installation
Hi, we're starting a project with DataStage and MetaStage and I do have a question regarding the installation of MetaStage. It's not totally clear in the documentation but should we install the administrator part on a NT server box? Could the admin part and the listener can be installed on a desktop...
