Thanks Ray - makes sense.

For future reference, if the volumes were lower (i.e. with a short run time), would SOA then be a good fit?

Should we consider SOA?

I've just come back from a discussion regarding a new project in which business users would like to execute DataStage jobs "on-demand". Although the jobs will likely be batch-oriented in their configuration (i.e. reading large volumes of data from static tables, transforming the data, then...

Sounds like a good solution.

Does this utility exist for a windows environment? If so, do you know where I can find information about it (i.e. how to start it, configuration etc)?

Thanks!

Using the LIST.READU command, the PID is blank.

Does a PID of 0 represent the System Idle Process? If so, what would be the implications of releasing this lock? Also, why would this process show up as maintaining a lock on the job?

Job Locked with associated PID = 0

Yesterday evening a developer ran into a problem while in Designer. They can't remember the exact message, but it stated "Project not set up correctly..." or something like that. Designer subsequently terminated. The developer then attempted to re-open the job in Designer, and predictably ...

Listing of Jobs and Categories

I know that I can use dsjob.exe with the -ljobs command to retrieve a listing of jobs within a project, but is there any command line utility that I can use to list the categories in which jobs reside?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response Naveen. The link you mentioned suggests that two separate jobs be used rather than attempting to read from and write to the same file in the same job. However, I've seen many jobs at numerous sites read from and write to the same file in a single job without a problem, and it...

DSD.SEQOpen Failed

A developer at a client site has approached me with a strange problem which I thought I'd post here... He's developed a very complex job with roughly 100 stages that is intermittently reporting the following error: Jobname..PreSort_020.ToSort_020: DSD.SEQOpen Failed to open filename.txt in directory...

Inter-Process Row Buffer

I have a job in which the order of incoming data must be maintained. If I enable Inter-process row buffering to speed up my job, is there any chance that this will this change my row order?

Thanks!

Thanks folks - that's been very helpful.

BTW, I should mention that the Import-->Orchestrate Schema Definitions option is only available (as far as I can see) in the Enterprise Edition of the product, so other users viewing this thread should consider this when selecting the best solution.

Thanks for the responses. Arnd - can you outline the required format for the Excel file? As would be expected, I'm receiving the following error when I simply try to import the csv file "as is". "No schemas found in file H:\tmp\file1.csv. View contents?" Is there a way for me to ...

Automatic Import of File Definition?

Unfortunately, I think I already know the answer to this question, but I thought I'd ask anyway... I've been provided with a file definition in spreadsheet format. The spreadsheet includes the following columns: - Column Name - SQL Data Type - Field Length - Precision (if applicable) Is there any wa...
