Metastage will help with this great deal. You can actually see where the fields are coming from, how fields are geting built through its analyzers. I don't have the system available to me , but I was very impressed with this functionality during the training class.

One thing you have to do is to hit some of the manuals. The problem with AScential manuals that they cover about 10% of what's going on though.. On top of that take some time and see what's going on when you deploy, run a job. If you have QS installed, you can actually use UNIX commands like tail -f...

You have to develop a good practice of keeping records of the jobs developed. However, the people who put QS on their resume do not realize how important it is to keep track of the .IMF files. The need for reverse engineering comes from the lack of a best practice that was put together by previous d...

Jamas, it can be "sort of done" in QS. you can absolutely pars the field into words through some pattern access stuff, and then you can take a look at the first character of each parsed field through a SLC stage. Besides being highly inefficient in many aspects, you cannot really guage how...

Nope,
it was posted in QS forum, because the initial poster was told by his client "let's use QS for this" :) Both are clueless though..

Jamas, you can do what you suggest, if (and that's a big one) if the first character of the field was the case. The original requirement is for the field where every letter in the description field has to be checked for upper case. Your solution deals only with the first character of the entire fiel...

If someone really knew QS they would have already known that they couldn't do this. I am basically tired of people claiming QS when they know squat about it.. I was once told "I don't know QS but I have friends that do" by a "consultant" .. So i have a PhD in Chemical Engineering...

I don't get it. Why would you need to deploy and run them in two different run profiles? Do you have two QS servers working for you?

Selecting records with 1:N relat. from hash file lookup?

I have been using hash files with no problem when the relationship was 1:1. Looks like in cases where I have 1:N I am not getting all the possible records I need to get if I was trying to get an inner join. Is there a way to get the output from a 1:N relationship between stream and hash files ? Let ...

Ray, thanks for taking the time and replying back to my original question with a very detailed explanation. I don't know what we would do without you :) The reason I asked the question is we have about 10-14 developers (some off shore, some on) working for diffferent project groups. We all use the s...

Very basic license question

When I open a designer and director at the same time on my client, does that get considered as two users or one user? We have issues with too many people logging into DS in one servers and the answer to this question will shed some light to our admins.

Vijay,
thanks for the answer. However, I know that the locale directory is not installed autormatically during the QS installation. (It's supposed to be under \QSserver70\locale). At least it's not part of it for the versions I worked with (1, 2, 4, 7.0 , 7.0.1) How did you install it?
