AravindK, As Craig has already mentioned, Hash files are fundamental to Server jobs. Now you may get along with out using Hash files but very soon when your data gets bigger and bigger you will have to re-design the jobs again. What DB are you using? theres is something like 'Transaction Handling' and this can be enabled by checking the option: 'Enable Transaction Handling'.
may be you can use that or if you don't want to design in that manner go for 2 jobs. UPDATE in the first job and in the second job INSERT.

Can some one give me a example how will they work & some scenario's which one to choose. I don't have access to DS 6/7 yet, but curious to know abt those stages. Yeah some people might think I am so outdated with DS 5.1, but What I can say and do ... my client is really slow in keeping upto date...

There is no fixed time the Server job takes time to run. It is dependent on many variables like ur network , DB server doing other tasks at that moment of time, how many other jobs are u running at the same time on the DS machine. In your first scenario, I would suggest that do your join in DS by us...
