Just an update for anyone who's still watching. I placed a support request with Ascential for assistance/direction on this matter. They indicated that they have seen some instances where environment variables are appearing to be 'ignored' so will look into what I'm trying to do and get back to me. I...

Thank you to everyone for your input on this matter. I very much appreciate the time and effort. I'm understanding the 'bottom line' to be that DS does not use 'operating system environment variables' at all then (IE: it does not read and use their valuest at runtime) which leaves me to wonder what ...

I'm using 2 environment variables, "Input_Data" and "Output_Data" created using the Administrator as "User Defined" environment variables. At runtime I pass "$ENV" to both of the job variables that use 'them'. The message that I get from the Director is: Proje...

Hey, I really hope that EVERYONE has 'taken off' for Xmas. I intend to myself in just a couple of hours. Thank you for your idea, but it doesn't affect the outcome. After changing the environment variables, I can access them in the job by dropping the old and re-importing the new definition. It's ju...

Using Environment Variables

Hi Folks, I'm trying to use environment variables with DataStage and I'm having a little difficulty that I hope someone can help me with. Background: I have a 'test' server job that simply copies one sequential file to another using a transformer stage. I want to use two environment variables to rep...

OLEDB Stage Table Creation on SQLServer 2000 target

Good day everyone, Is there any way to have an OLEDB stage CREATE a table in the target database where you wish to store info? I've looked in the documenation and found nothing and the stage properties all seem to be describing update actions only. Thanks in advance for any assistance/information yo...

DS- Set "Import MetaData-Browse Directories" list

Hi, Our developers have data files in various locations around the corporate network. They would like to be able to Import data definitions for these files into DS. Table Definitions(right-click)->Import->(file-type)->'browse button' brings up the "Browse Directories" dialog box. The "...

SQLServer Timestamp compare to Date String

Good morning everyone. I have someone here experiencing difficulty with dates. They want to compare a timestamp from a SQLServer DB to a date string (with no time). IE: If <timestamp field> > than 'June 30 1999' then... Anyone have a straight forward solution to handling the timestamp field to remov...

Thank you all so much for your information. It turns out that we purchased ADABAS Connect from NatWorks earlier but have not exercised it as yet. I'm working with NatWorks to install the product this week and see what I can do with that tool. Thanks again to everyone for your input. Perhaps some tim...

Update

I've asked the question of Ascential support and will await an answer. I will also be asking the ADABAS database folks, Software AG on Monday. I'm still watching here for anyone who might know something from experience and I'll let everyone know the outcome of my queries.

downloading data from ADABAS on IBM "mainframe"

Does anyone have experience with pulling data from ADABAS databases on an IBM mainframe? I've been asked how we should do this and do not have any experience or knowledge of that source system. We need to extract large amounts of data from legacy apps on the mainframe and process them with DataStage...

Jim I'm pretty new to DataStage but I think I just successfully dealt with a similar problem. I have an input file of records with fixed-field lengths. Not all the records have data in some of the last records however so, in effect, the records are variable-length. What I did was to edit the input s...
