Sounds like you have used a good user/pass to connect to the Domain, which is where the list of projects is held.
Have you mapped this user's credentials, in the IS Console, to a user/pass that is valid on the DS Server machine ?
You could test these by telnet'ing to the DSServer n port 2300.

Using the Admin console you need to set up Information Server users, give them appropriate roles, and assign them user credentials to be able to use DataStage. You can use the same machine for the DS Clients. If you have the same errors when using Information Server I suspect that your Websphere App...

The domain is 'rajesh', 9080 is the default port and you do not need to specify it. The project will be 'rajesh/yourproj'. To test if the domain is running you can use a Browser to connect to the admin console - http://rajesh:9080 - but you must have done this already to set up the users ? The error...

Is Log Auto-purging enabled for either the Project or Jobs ?
If so, please disable and retest. If this solves your problem then there is a patch that you can request.

If you search the forums there can be a few reasons, I suspect user permissions.

Has this been broken since 2006 ?

You need to contact your support provider, and supply more information from the error message dialog.
That (incomplete) message is referring to an object from the repository, it may be that you have some corruption or an unusual seqeunce.

You won't need to re-install, just apply the new license.
The QS Stages are likely to be plugin icons rather than disabled if the palette has become confused, it does not always pick up the license change immediately. You can reset the palette from it's context menu.

There are plenty of install & configuration documents that come with 8.x, either on the DVD or online at IBM, that will help you decide what topology to use and how to setup the users.
Sounds like you have not installed the Server portions yet.
