If we increase the number of readers per node...to say 5 and we have some 10 million records...in a single large file......so each reader will take 2 million records and process the data in parallel. If the numbers of readers is set to one, will it not run the whole downstream sequentially? it wont ...

Since you are reading from a sequential the name itself says it will run in sequential mode, so i believe the next stage also will become sequential,
There is nothing much you can do here apart from changing the properites in the sequential file.

You need to have the respective supporting drivers and the client installations. then it shouldnt be a problem to integrate the data, then you can load it to any target. Note: (from memory) i think DS8 doesnt support oracle 7, if you have data coming in from ora7, then it should be a problem, may be...

hhhmmmm.......In Info serve 8.0.1, the documentation part has links to all the Pdf's which has few images for each stages....! that is what i meant...!especially the properties and things...anyways......! this was just a request to make it more easier. :)
