Re: development time

AI is good for companies having too many business entities and each one needing an ETL at its service. The re-usability is certainly an advantage over DS for it differs very fundamentally in the following concepts: 1. Job design 2. Transformation and structure 3. Executable is a script DataStage nev...

New wish list

Heres my wish list. 1. Consistency control, integrity checks Part and parcel of the tool itself. Let the tool take care of this and phasing (Ab Initio) could help to a large extent. 2. Phasing of components Ab Initio can teach something here. 3. Transparent lookups Informatica can teach something he...

I always wanted this functionality to be a provided by the software tool and never part of any custom programming done by us. Business logic is what we are expected to code and given money for. Certainly not for the integrity and consistency checks. Do you see any worthiness in a program of 5 lines ...

You are right, Mr. Ray. :-) I am called an expert now and hence I could come to Swiss. Learning DS and gaining experience - Long and old story it is, while we learnt. In fact, many of your documents helped us to know more about the tool and its internals. We used to call it as "Technical anatom...

Re: How did you learn DataStage?

Believe me, many of us learnt from colleagues and seniors but hesitant to admit that. Hardly, any org goes for such trainings by putting lot of money. Instead, they hire a couple of seniors and makes a bunch of juniors join them and learn. Out of curiosity, we arrange for some cracked or pirated ver...

Yes, I keep this post alive. DS 7.5 is now a thing of past for me. Theres no more issue with DS about handling of big numbers as we are onto DS8. Most of the products were never tested for such huge numbers, I reckon. 1. DS 7.5 had problem. Vanished with DS 8. 2. Informatica 7.1 PowerCenter too had ...

Re: Server job running Longtime

Friend,

Use DS job monitor to see the progress and the speed at which records are being fetched.

Replace your query projection clause (between SELECT and FROM) by count(1) and give it to your DBA.

Rest follows automatically.

Abhijit

But still as a programmer, u should hava a look at it.......query them (DS_JOBS, DS_JOBOBJECTS, DS_STAGES, DS_SUBROUTINES etc etc).

Physically u shall see BASIC program files (.o) for every job that u have developed.
